Dog Mauling Leads To Murder Charges

If you haven’t already heard, Craig Sytsma was savagely attacked by two mastiff-like cane corso dogs in Metamora Township, Michigan. Mr. Sytsma died because of the brutal animal attack, and ZuppkeLaw would like to offer our condolences to anyone who has personally been affected by his passing.

As The Week Has Gone On, This Story Has Developed Into A List Of Legal Conundrums.

First, the dogs attacked and killed the Mr. Sytsma while he was on an evening jog. Though we can’t be certain, this seems like a blatant violation of Michigan’s dog bite statute, as released evidence shows that jogger was neither trespassing nor provoking the animals before he was attacked. Then, it was later revealed that the two owners, a man and wife, Valbona Lucaj and Sebastiano Quagliata, illegally bribed a government official to attain political asylum in the United States. Now, the owners are being charged with murder. Yes, you read that correctly, murder.

Charging a person for murder as a result of an animal attack is not common. ZuppkeLaw has handled countless Michigan dog bite cases over the last 34 years, and this is among one of the most extraordinary cases we’ve ever read about.
